Marrakech has a hold over us like few places do. Its textures, the rough and the smooth, the coarse and the fine; its lights, the sweet glow of lanterns and the shadows of hidden passageways; its energy, subtle and sublime yet chaotic and frenzied. It's a place of contradictions and extremes, and it inspires us with every visit.
where to eat
- Royal Monsour - Glamorous and indulgent, this is a must for a beautiful aftermoon lunch.
- Nomad is another must for lunch, with its airy rooftop and clandestine feel. (And yes, we obviously vibe with the name!)
- La Terrasse des Epices is always our first stop for dinner. The glow of lanterns, the flowing of French wines..it's a truly global Marrakech at its best.
- The Beldi Country Club is not necessarily a favorite of ours for its food, but trust us: get a day pass for the pools and everything you eat for lunch will taste like pure heaven.
where to drink
For those new to Morroco, you should set your expectations: drinking isn't part of the culture, and you won't find any loud nightlife neighborhoods. That said, beautiful bars exist (primarily for Westerners), and you won't be left wanting in Marrakech.
- La Mamounia is known for its decadent, cinema-worthy spa, but us? We skip the spa and grab a vodka martini in its bar.
- El Fenn- yes, the same El Fenn we love staying at- has amazing cocktails which you can enjoy on the rooftop.
where to stay
- El Fenn is our forever favorite.
- But we also love Villa des Orangers, a Relais & Chateau property with the right mix of beauty, mystery, and tranquility.
- Riad Azzounia 13 has amazing art and a gorgeous patio; it's a hidden gem in a more, let's say, adventerous area.
