The Bar We have to Grab Drinks At

Chilthern Firehouse

"This place is gorgeous. Really, it’s jaw-on-the-floor stuff. An intensely beautiful, already buzzing space, housed in an handsome old redbrick fire station in Marylebone; its loveliness is less surprising when you learn this is the new London venture of hotelier André Balazs, the man behind the Chateau Marmont, He’s assembled a great team here too. The kitchen is overseen by Nuno Mendes (lured here from the innovative and much-missed Viajante in Bethnal Green). The garden terrace is a joy in and of itself, full of elegant wicker furniture, flowers and greenery. Inside the prettiness continues, the bar area is a similarly lavish space of marble and mirror. Then there’s the open kitchen where you can catch glimpses of the chefs going about their business. The whole package is hugely seductive. And that’s before you’ve even taken a drink, before you’ve sunk that first cocktail (try the Kinky Matador, their tequila-laced take on the Negroni) or glass of vintage fizz. Prices are high they definitely make you pay for all this pretty and you could blow a lot of cash here if you so wished but this kind of glamorous lushness is rare and worth paying for. Hot stuff indeed."  Be sure and ask where the "secret room" is.
